Ghent

We stayed in Ghent but didn’t wind up getting to do much there. We went in May of 2023 when our kids were 4, 9 & 11.

Ghent Cuberdons

They’re shaped like noses (cones) and come in different flavors. They’re kind of a gummy candy, but different. We tried and liked banana (okay, I was the only one who liked that one), passionfruit, green apple and the original raspberry. We didn’t really like the cherry ones. 

Liege Waffles

They were so good! A lot of places had lots of topping choices that we tried, but I thought just plain was the best. My youngest loved the nutella on them.

Other

There was a castle we saw from the outside, but I’m not sure if we could have gone in or not.

Just walk around. It is pretty!

Chocolates

Yum! We got some yummy chocolates and some surprising ones. My husband and I decided it would be fun to taste some alcohol flavored chocolates. I bit into one of them, instead of eating it whole, and it was pure liquid inside! It got all over my shirt. I think they were actually filled with liquor. That was shocking.

Hotel Recommendation

Hotel Castel

Our hotel was so nice!

It had a main room with a queen bed. There was a huge desk and a big open area behind it for bags and such. Then in the hall was a room with a toilet and a tiny sink. There was another room with a big shower and a bigger sink. Then at the end of the hall was a room that had two twin beds, its own TV, lamps and a nice window. But we were all in the same hotel room. It was really great. 

It was also only a 3 minute walk from the train station that went to Bruges & Brussels!  But, it was farther to get into the main area of Ghent.

The funny story with the room is that we thought we had no electricity. I went to ask about it and the lady said “Did you put in the room card to get electricity on?” Turns out they have a slot next to the door, on the inside, where you put your room key to turn on the power to the room. I bet it saves money and electricity.

We ate at a restaurant right down the street from here that was really good. I wish I could remember which one. But there were food choices very close.
