Northern Wisconsin

In June of 2021 we took a drive from Green Bay up to Copper Falls State Park. Then we made our way over to Duluth, up along the North Shore Drive (see my post on that in the Minnesota section) and then down back to Wisconsin to Amnicon Falls State Park & Pattison State Park. Below are the things that were in Wisconsin from that road trip.

Transportation:

We used our car to get everywhere we needed to go.

Tips:

The Great Lakes can have big waves and things like rip currents and such, like an ocean. Always check about safety before going and be careful while there. Check local sources about water quality too.

Bay Beach Amusement Park (Green Bay, WI)

This amusement park wasn’t huge and it seemed more aimed at children. We had 4 hours of fun rides and even got to get everyone a treat from the concession stand all for $37 dollars (2021 price)! There was a big roller coaster that was thrilling and fun. There were things like the tilt-a-whirl and the one that spins around when you're standing, the big slides you go down on a carpet, and there were lots of rides our  youngest could do too (2 at the time). We were there on a weekday so it wasn't even that busy. The longest we stood in lime was waiting for one ride ahead of us. My oldest (9 at the time)loved the big roller coaster and said the super slide was her favorite. We did almost every ride and even did some a few times. It was so fun!

Copper Falls State Park

The drive was beautiful from Wausau, WI to Copper Falls State Park. We crossed the Wisconsin River a few times, the road was lined with forests & my husband said he saw a black bear on the road.

Copper Falls State Park was gorgeous. I wish we could have spent longer there. We saw Copper Falls, Brownstone Falls and we saw beautiful cascades there when we hiked the 1.7 mile Doughboy trail. We even got to see where the Bad River met up with Tyler Forks to merge together. It was so pretty!

The downside was that even with bug spray we got so many bug bites. If it weren’t for the mosquitoes we would have stayed much longer doing more hikes.

Amnicon Falls State Park

We got to do a short hike to see the Lower and Upper Amnicon Falls and Snake Pit Falls. There was a pretty covered bridge over the Amnicon River. There was another waterfall right off the parking lot called Now and Then Falls. It was pretty there and reminded us of Colorado. The river had rocks and rapids even.

Pattison State Park

We got to see Big & Little Manitou Falls on the Black River. Big Manitou Falls is 165’ high and was very impressive. We saw it from afar, but we got to get up close to Little Manitou Falls. It was a  short hike to a very pretty waterfall and there were tons of yellow butterflies on the way down to it when we went.
