O’ahu Hiking

We did these hikes in July of 2024. Our kids were 12, 10 & 5 at the time.

Diamond Head Crater

We drove into the crater (pre-purchased tickets) and then hiked up the edges of the crater. It took us a little over an hour round trip. It had a ton of switchbacks and stairs, but it was all paved. It was pretty crowded, and we did a hike early in the morning. We got to see a rainbow while we were at the top and it had a beautiful view of the ocean.

Likeke Trail

It was a very muddy but really pretty hike to a waterfall. Our kids all loved it. The waterfall was pretty but crowded. The trail did have quite a few tree roots. I was so glad I packed back up clothes and shoes for everyone, baby wipes and a trash bag for all of our dirty clothes.

Manoa Falls Trail

We had nice weather for about ⅓ of the hike and then it started raining hard. Thankfully we had hats to keep the rain off our faces, kind of. We decided to just keep on going. The trail was uphill the whole way and the center of the trail kind of turned into a stream. It was a very rocky trail. It wasn’t naturally rocky, rocks had been put there. Probably to help with the mud or erosion. The waterfall was pretty but there were a lot of people and it was a small viewing area.

Aiea Loop Trail

This trail was longer than the others we did. It was 4.8 miles. There were eucalyptus trees (pretty sure that’s what they were) that smelled good. The reviews I read said it was kid friendly. It wasn’t a difficult hike necessarily; but there were tons of drop offs/cliff type areas that made it scary with young kids. This hike was not crowded.
